You know by now that I obviously I love blue and white. I also love to create tablescapes, as many of you know as well. Blue and white is my favorite color combination and I love to use it all over our home, and even much of my wardrobe also consists of this classic. Growing up surrounded by this timeless palette, and seeing it in our home every day, has most definitely made an impact on the way I use it today. I’ve been building my collection for the last few years and I have quite a few chinoiserie ginger jars, dishes and vases, ikat dishes and bowls, beautiful linens…I’ve wanted to add some new pieces to my dishware collection that will bring a certain rustic element to it. We have a casual yet elegant kitchen and I wanted my new pieces to have the same feel. I’ve partnered with Etsy to build my collection and I couldn’t be happier with the gorgeous, one of a kind items that I found. I love that some of them are made by local artisans too. They’re the perfect addition to my collection. The ‘Etsy Editor’s Picks’ page is a fantastic resource as well when you’re looking for unique pieces for your home – there are a multitude of items to choose from – you can check them out here. Today, I’m sharing a casual and rustic blue and white tablescape and I’m so excited to show you my new pieces and how well they fit into our home.

Come on into our kitchen and see how I pulled this look together.
The idea was to build a casual and elegant setting for a light snack or breakfast. Rather than use a table runner, I chose to layer two Turkish towels for a more eclectic look. I kept it light in color to create a fresh, airy feeling and I love the beautiful stripe pattern as the base for the tablescape.
Keeping it somewhat classic, I decided that lemons and limes, along with fresh tulips and hydrangeas were the way to go. It’s so simple to create a stunning centrepiece with fresh produce. Green apples, oranges, pears, etc…anything in multiples will work fabulously with this idea.
I added some greenery from the flowers, since I didn’t have actual leaves from the lemons or limes, and they work perfectly.
Now, let’s talk about this stunning plate that I found. It’s almost too beautiful to cover up, don’t you think? I know this will be on display in our kitchen!
The pattern is so pretty, and has a French quality that I just love. I especially love the imperfections in the print and that it feels like a piece I’ve inherited.
The little tea bowls are so cute and I knew I had to have these too! The size is perfect for a single, small serving of fruit, and I love how they make the blueberries look even prettier. I love to present items on a cake stand to give them importance, and rather than scattering the bowls on the table, I chose to give them height so they’d stand out.
It’s no secret that I love to mix pattern, and these pieces, even though they’re all different, have a cohesive look when paired together. They all have the hand made, rustic quality that I love. It’s incredible how you can create unique collections that speak to your own personality. Don’t be shy to try to mix, it’s always more interesting than using a complete set.
I love the shape of the cups, which are actually made for coffee, and that they have no handle – the design is a fun spin on classic, vintage glassware.
Notice all the different patterns of each piece and how well they work together.
One of the key elements to this table is all the varying heights that are happening. I chose to build the height at one end, and cascade down from there – I didn’t want too much greenery in the middle of the table. I wanted the importance of the blue and white pieces to take center stage as you walk up to the table.
This was really simple to create, it took only a few minutes of placing the items in a pleasing arrangement, creating almost a gradation of color down the center.
I love how this tablescpae welcomes you as you enter the kitchen. It’s not too fussy, and the vibrant yellows and greens play off of all the blues and whites so beautifully…it feels homey, warm and comforting.
Classic blue and white is always right! It’s currently right on-trend, but it’s also timeless – you’ll never be sorry for building your own collection, you will use it in so many different ways. I hope you enjoyed reading today, and that you learned how easy it is to pull together an elegant table like this in just a few minutes.
